Israel Robles

 Israel Robles is one of the community heroes in our community, and I had a chance to interview him and really get to know him. Israel is a very nice and helpful person. He has a sweet and caring personality. I think he is a very kind person because he wants to make the community and world a better place. Israel is a very calm and open-hearted person who cares about the youth. Israel is Puerto Rican, he has black spiky hair, and he likes to play basketball. I had a great time interviewing him.

The work Israel does in the community is very cool and it sounds fun and interesting. Israel works for the Logan Squareneighborhood association (LSNA). He also works for the YMCA. Israel works at Ames middle school. The program he works for is called Teens to Men. In this program he teaches young boys how to be young responsible adults. He teaches them how to wash their clothes, how to shave, and how to be respectful young men. We asked Israel about our community and heroes. Israel said, “the best part of our community is all the ethnic backgrounds, and the people working together to make it a better place.” Israel defines a hero as someone who reaches out to others. In Israel eyes he is not a hero because working in the community is a passion he has and he doesn’t take it as being a hero. But Israel thinks he saves lives while he reaches out to others and stops them from doing bad. Israel enjoys the work he does in the community because he has a passion for it and because he doesn’t want to see young people in gangs or doing the wrong thing.      

Israel is a very kind and giving person. He has a great personality and he gets along with kids great. When Israel has time to himself he listens to motivational speakers such as Les Brown. Israel also likes to write stories and documentaries. He wrote a story called “Karma.” It was about a young boy who was a wanna be and wanted to be in a gang and the people in the gang told him in order to be in the gang he had to kill someone, so he did it. After he killed the boy he ran home. Later there was a knock on the door. It was the police so his father answered the door, and they told him his son had just been killed. So basically the little boy killed his own brother. The story was actually turned into a movie and I would love to see it one day. Israel is a very intelligent and bright person and I had a very great time getting to know him.

Finally we asked Israel about the heroes in his life. The important people in Israel’s life are his mom and Less Brown because they inspire him. In my eyes Israel is a hero because he cares about the youth and want to see us do good and get somewhere in life. He is also a hero because he reaches out to people and he helps the youth do well in order for us to do something with our lives. “Heroes are everywhere in our community who want to reach out to the youth,” Israel said. I think people should look up to Israel Robles because he is doing something some people are scared to do.
